Nearest international airport from Shimla is Chandigarh. From there ride a bus to Shimla, that will take only 4 hours. You can easily find the bus going to Shimla from here.
BY BUS –
You can get many Himachal Pradesh transport from ISBT in Delhi. Shimla is around 350 Km from Delhi.
BY TRAIN –
You can get the train to Shimla from Kalka Chandigarh. It’s a small train which passes through many tunnels. The tunnel number 33 is also known as one of the most hunted places in India.
BEST TIME TO VISIT SHIMLA –
Best to travel Shimla is from October to June months. You will enjoy snow in the month of December till February. And if you want to get rid of hot weather in the months of April to June in India just come to Shimla.

1.MALL ROAD –
The mall road is the main shopping area of Shimla. It’s built during British rule. The mall road just located near to Ridge. You can find lots of bars, restaurants, hotels, bookshops, clothes, Assesries, club, many government offices, post office, and banks.
To enjoy mall road charm just take a walk from lower bazaar to mall road in the evening till its end up. It will take around 15 minutes.
You will see lots of people in Shimla mall road in the evening time. Some are walking, sitting, shopping and eating.

2. JAKHOO TEMPLE
This place is one of the famous attractions in Shimla. This is a temple of Lord Hanuman. It’s situated on top hills. The height of this place is 2455 meter from sea level.
You can easily reach here by cable car from Ridge. You will see here lots of beautiful trees. This place is very peaceful and good for meditation.
You will see lots of money’s here as well. Beware of those because they are catching things like hats, sunglass, and bags. Just give them little food they will return you’re belonging.
On Dussehra, a big festival happens here every year.
3. THE RIDGE
This place is very big same as a playground. It’s attached to the mall road Shimla. Many cultural real activities are happening here. During snow season this place looks really beautiful. In that time many tourist plays with snow in The Ridge in Shimla. This place starts from scandal point to Lakkar Bazaar.
A popular landmark of the ridge is a beautiful Church, opened in 1844 and a public library.
Will also find here the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and YS Parmar (first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh).
4. CHRIST CHURCH
This is the second oldest church in North India after John’s Church in Meerut. This church was completely built in 1857 and serve for only British people.
The Christ church is easily visible from a far distance. It’s yellow in color. And designed as Neo-Gothic style.
5. VICEREGAL LODGE & BOTANICAL GARDEN
This building is now known as Indian Institute of Advanced study or IIAS. This building was built in 1888 as a residence of British governor Lord Dufferin.
There are a beautiful garden and lawn in front of this building. This place is also known as Rashtrapati Niwas. The building is constructed with gray color limestone.
If you want to go inside the building you need to some amount of money. There will be a tour guide, he will roam you around and tell you about the building.
6. SCANDAL POINT
Scandal point in Shimla also a popular tourist attraction it connects mall road to Ridge. But the question why they named it Scandal point?

In 1892 during British rule in India, Maharaja of Patalia Mr. Bhupinder Singh falls in love with British viceroy daughter.
And Mr. Bhupinder Singh eloped her from this place in 1892. Where this incident happen now known as Scandal point.
Today all over scandal point you will a lot of restaurants and others shops. Here you will see a big statue of Indian freedom fighter” Lala Lajpat Rai” as well.
Here you can also enjoy horse riding.
7. KALI BARI TEMPLE
This place is another tourist in Shimla and dedicated to Goddess Kali which is also known as Shyamala.
And only because of this name Shyamalan, now we know Shimla. So now you have an answer to the question, why Shimla has given this name and what is the meaning?
This temple is located in Jakhu hills in Shimla. From this place, you can see an amazing view of Himalayas.
Kali Bari temple is near to The Mall road and here you can get Bengali food as well.
During Durga Puja and Navratri, you will see lots of people here.
It’s open from 6 am to 7 pm.
8. GAIETY THEATRE
This place is located in The Mall road Shimla and was designed by English architect Henry Irwin.
The Gaiety theatre Shimla was opened in 1877. And you can book this Theatre online as well.
More than 300 people can easily fit here. The architecture style of Shimla Gaiety theatre is neo-gothic.
This place is also known as Townhall. You can enjoy drama and plays here as well done by more than 15 local dramatic societies.

9. STATE MUSEUM
The State Museum Shimla was opened for public in 26th January 1974. This Museum represents Himachali culture and tradition.
During British rule in Shimla, this place was an accommodation of Lord William Beresford. This place is 3 Km from Scandal point Shimla. The Museum will remain closed on Monday.
There is a library also here with many historical books.

10. SANKAT MOCHAN TEMPLE
This temple is about 5 Km from The mall Shimla and located in Shimla – Kalka highway.
This temple was established in 1950. This place is perfect for meditation and mental peace. Temple is surrounded with many green tresses.
On every Sunday food is distributed to devotees which are also known as “Langer” in the local language.
There is a marriage hall here, which you can rent for some days for marriage purpose.
You will find here many monkeys as well, so beware. There is a big lord hanuman statue also here. The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, Lord Ram, and others Hindu gods.
11. GORTON CASTLE
Gorton castle is a heritage building in Shimla. It was built in 1904 and designed by Winton Jacob. This building is used as an office by Himachal Pradesh Accountant General.
This place is situated on hills and surrounded with many deodar and rosewood trees. You will see here an attractive view of nature. Gorton castle has three stories.
This castle has 125 rooms and made of grey colored stones. You will also see here beautiful Rajasthan jaali works on balconies.
Gorton castle is located near the mall and in cart road Shimla.

The roof of the castle is made by red sheets which is visible from a far distance.
12. LOWER BAZAR SHIMLA
Lower Bazar is a public market in Shimla. This place remains fully crowded in maximum time.
Lower Bazar is situated just below of Mall road Shimla. And start from Shimla old bus stop. So if you want to Shimla public market or interested to buy something come here.

13. TARA DEVI TEMPLE –
This temple is dedicated to the goddess of stars and in Hindi Tara Devi. This temple is located 11 km from Shimla. This place is very clean and silent and best for prayer or meditation.
Beware of monkey here; just don’t keep anything in your hands. If they stop you just give them little food they will go.
This place provides you with a very beautiful view of mountains, Shimla city, and trees. On every Sunday food ( Langar) is distributed here for devotees.
All days of the week from 7:00 AM – 6:30 PM.
In Navratri (Hindu festival) you will a lot of people here. You can easily reach here by bus from ISBT Shimla.
14. HIMALAYAN BIRD PARK
This place is just next to Indian Institute of advanced study or vice-regal Lodge in Shimla. The park is small and but have good varieties of birds. The entrance fee is 10 INR.
If you are nature lover then you must visit this place. The place is green because of lots of plants. Some of the birds are here like pheasants, peafowl, Himalayan Monal
Best time to visit this place in summer because in the winter season many birds fly to other hot places.

15. HIMALAYAN NATURE PARK
This place is located in Kufri Shimla. And it’s a zoo, with many types of animals, birds, plants and flowers species. This zoo is spread over 90 Hectares land. This place is 16 km from Shimla. You can easily get the bus going to this place from Lakkar Bazar Shimla.
Himalayan Nature Park was set up in 1992. This place is also known as Kufri national park or Kufri zoo.

This is a popular building in Shimla and builds during British rule. The first person lived here was James Bruce in 1863.
Peterhoff was also a Governor’s residence. Now this place is a luxury hotel with 34 suites.
So if you are planning to come Shimla just book your room in Peterhoff. The rooms of this hotel are very luxurious with many amenities. The place is surrounded by many trees. You will also see a beautiful view of Dhauladhar ranges and Kinner Kailash from Peterhoff.

This park is located in The Ridge in Shimla. The park is small but it’s very clean and well maintained. You will see a beautiful view of Jakhoo hills and Tara Devi from here.
The park is maintained by Municipal Corporation of Shimla. You will see beautiful flowers everywhere in this park. You will see a statue of Mr. Yashwant Singh Parmar and Mr. Daulat Singh here. You will enjoy a beautiful view of The Mall road Shimla and the Ridge.

18. CHADWICK FALLS
The waterfall is located 7km from Shimla. To reach here you need to walk in a narrow way till 10 to 15 minutes. This place is quiet and surrounded by many trees.
The height of the waterfall is 86 meters. Due to its location in the dense forest, I advise you visit with many friends.
There is no entrance fee.
19. JAKHU ROPEWAY
This is one of the main attractions in Shimla. This ropeway goes to Jakhu Temple from The Ridge Shimla. And while riding in ropeway you will see a beautiful view of mountains and Shimla city.
So if you want to see Jakhu Temple and you can’t walk because it’s located in the hills, then better take this ropeway. It will cost you around 550 INR for a round trip.
And for one side it will cost you around 300 INR. You will reach only in 6 minutes in Jakhu temple by this cable car. Maximum people are 6 numbers to ride a cable car in one time.
While riding Rope way you will be 8,054 feet above from sea level.
All days a week from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.
The Ridge to US Club, Bemloi, Shimla
20. SUMMER HILL
If you want to enjoy the real beauty of nature then come to Summer Hill in Shimla. This place is 6 km from the main Shimla. And you can easily reach here by getting a bus from any part of Shimla.
Besides natural beauty, Himachal Pradesh University is also located here. There is a railway station here as well. Summer Hill is situated 2100 Feet above from sea level. During snow season this place fully covered with snow.
If you really want to enjoy the greenery of this place, just start walking from the mall road towards Summer Hill. You will complete this walk in 60 minutes approx. The road is nice and wide and around you will see lots of trees and flowers. Best time is morning or evening.
21. JOHNNIE’S WAX MUSEUM
Here you will find many waxes made a statue of famous people from all over the world. This is the first wax museum in Shimla.
Johnnie’s Wax Museum opened Shimla in 11th may 2016.
Right now they have 16 wax statues here.

Enjoy your shopping in Lakkar Bazar Shimla. You will find here nice items which are made of woods. Also winter wear, Souvenir, handmade shawls, and gift shops.
Lakkar Bazar is just attached to The Ridge in Shimla. If you keep on walking this road will lead you to IGMC and Sanjauli places.
Lakkar Bazar is also had many small restaurants with tasty breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
23. ICE SKATING IN LAKKAR BAZAR
This is only ASIA open ice skating ring. This is only available in the winter season.

24. RAFTING AT TATTAPANI
Tatapani is located 45 km far from Shimla. Tatapani is known for its natural hot springs in “Sutluj River”. So here you can enjoy river rafting and natural hot water bath.
Tatapani in local language means “Hot water”. And people believe that taking bath in this water you’re many diseases like Joint pain, fatigue, stress, skin infection, and heart problem will go away.
Mountain biking & cycling is also available here. So you can visit this place own with the bike. Best time to visit this place is from March to June.
You can do track here as well. There are many hotels in Tatapani. There is one famous “Lord Shiva cave” which is very near to Tatapani, so you can visit that one also.
